Old Church Road Update
Plans to close a section of Court Road, as part of the new Peters Village roads network, are being reconsidered after an updated road safety audit by KCC Highways and the road designers.
Planners had doubts initially about whether the existing Court Road junction with Margetts Lane, could handle changes to traffic flows generated by the new roads infrastructure.
So they proposed a traffic closure for the leg of Court Road running approximately 250 metres south west from Margetts Lane down to Old Church Lane, while leaving it open to walkers, equestrians and cyclists as part of rural amenities in and around Peters Village.
But residents in Model Cottages on Old Church Road were worried that this closure would force them to rely on car access to their homes via an unadopted and badly eroded section of that road.
Though under no legal obligation, Peters Village developer, Trenport Investments, did offer to restore this section, for safe access by residents’ cars and allow Southern Water vehicles to reach the nearby treatment works.
However, highway experts have since looked again at the overall plan and decided to preserve the status quo, subject to a routine 12-month monitoring process.
Trenport Director Chris Hall said: “This is good news on all sides: Model Cottages residents will continue to access their homes the way they always have, and residents in the wider area will keep a familiar route.
“Meanwhile, the highway authority will keep a watching brief for a year, to determine whether the new roads structure still has a bearing on the relevant section of Court Road."
